Rant Of The Day – LASTMA Or TRAFMA?

By Grace Shaibu

Welcome to the rant column

I wonder why there is a switch in roles and the only answer I get is, Irresponsibility. It is funny that these guys were created to make the lives of the citizens easier by enforcing Law and Order amongst motorists but the case? Oh, it’s a spill from the real deal.  The annoying part here, is the Traffic aspect. They are supposed to be traffic controllers but nah! They are the ones in charge of creating traffic.

One day, I was on my way to work and as we started out the driver and his conductor started complaining about the traffic, I was surprised because I felt, it’s a normal thing and they shouldn’t complain but guess what? They weren’t complaining because of the traffic but complaining that this traffic won’t clear off in time because of the LASTMA officials there. They said, they allow traffic so they can extort commuter drivers and I’m like? Really? what a way to switch roles. They are now a part of the agberos in Lagos.

When there’s traffic, they will camp on a side looking for how to stop buses and get money from them and I keep wondering? Is joining the team by force? You know you will be a shame to the team why join? Some of them have protruding bellies and you wonder? Is a man in uniform supposed to look like a forgotten bread in water? Anyway, Let me shut up here.

Sincerely, LASTMA is a joke. Thieves in uniform, at least majority of them.

My sister, this is real o. I remembered seeing a LASTMA officer and a Police officer fighting because of money. It was a terrible sight.
