Super Falcons forward, Asisat Lamina Oshoala, yesterday, in Lagos, pledged her commitment to lift female football in the country, after being unveiled as the ‘Face of 2016 Women Federation Cup.’

Oshoala who was unavoidably absent at the ceremony, but spoke to the audience in the conference through a video clip, said it was an honour, adding that she sees it as a responsibility to contribute her own quota to the development of female football in the country.

 
“It has always been my desire to help the young ones who are into female football to realise their dreams. We are the future of Nigerian female football. I am prepared to give my best to ensure that the glory of female football in Nigeria is rekindled.”

 
The Chairman/CEO, HS Media Group, Mr Taye Ige, in his speech titled; Asisat Oshoala: Face of 2016 Women Federation Cup, said his organisation would join hands to bring back the glory days of the Women federation Cup.

 
“We hope to promote Nigerian Women Federation Cup tournament and enhance its prestige and ultimately, achieve an increase in business opportunities around the tournament culminating in long-term relationships with corporate organisations, especially those with proven passion for female football, in the form of sponsorships.”

 
Speaking in the same vein, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi said the Glass House was happy with Oshoala, whom he added has kept to her promise of lifting female football in Nigeria.

 
“The NFF has always felt the need to lift female football in the country and we thank Lagos State Government for her assistance in hosting the Women’s Federation Cup so far. We promise to engage a sponsor for the Female league next year.”
In the same vein, the Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu said that Women’s football has not been recognised enough in Nigeria, stressing that there is need to support and sponsor female football in the country.
