Police in Jinja District have arrested two members of the Jobless Brotherhood for allegedly calling the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga a swine.

The suspects identified as Augustine Ojobile and Robert Mayanja were arrested on the orders of Jinja Deputy Resident District commissioner, Mr Erick Sakwa.

Speaking to journalists at Jinja Central Police Station shortly after arresting the suspects at the weekend, Jinja police commander, Mr Felix Mugizi, said the suspects made the “uncharitable” reference while on a radio talk show programme called the Mirror, hosted by Shamir Byakika. “They abused the Speaker of Parliament, we shall not entertain this at all.

These are the very people dropping pigs at Parliament. If they want to protest, they can do it the right way and not abuse anybody or call people annoying names on radio,” Mr Mugizi said.

Mr Mugizi said the suspects will be charged with defamation and will this week be produced in Court.

Mr Sakwa said, “It is unreasonable for high profile people to be defamed, in this manner-being called pigs.”

He added: “You cannot appear on a talk show programme and start calling someone a pig yet that person is a national leader. We need to discuss issues that help us as a country.”

The MP for Bukooli Constituency, Mr Solomon Silwany, said the youth defamed MPs.

“While we were debating national issues, the two started abusing the Speaker of Parliament and I, saying we are pigs,” he said.
