South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The 24-year-old artiste clinched the prize with her hit single “Push 2 Start,” marking her second win in the category. Tyla previously won the award in 2024 for her global breakout song “Water,” making her the first artiste to claim the title twice since the category was introduced.
This year’s win saw Tyla triumph over a strong field that included Nigerian stars Davido, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr, further cementing her growing influence on the global music stage and her status as one of Africa’s most successful contemporary pop exports.
Introduced in 2024, the Best African Music Performance category celebrates recordings that highlight the richness and diversity of African music. Nigerian singer Tems won the award in 2025.
“Push 2 Start,” taken from Tyla’s self-titled debut album Tyla released in 2024, gained widespread traction across streaming platforms and social media, driven in part by viral dance challenges. The track blends amapiano rhythms with pop and R&B elements, exploring themes of romance and self-confidence.
Tyla’s latest Grammy win underscores her ability to fuse African sounds with global pop appeal, continuing to push amapiano into mainstream international consciousness.
