Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has released a video on his Instagram page in response to the Federal Government’s claim that no Nigerian student on scholarship in Morocco has been abandoned.
In the video, VeryDarkMan visited the residence of some Nigerian students studying in Morocco under the Federal Government scholarship scheme. The footage shows about 11 students living in a single room, with the students describing their living conditions as extremely difficult.
One of the students featured in the video was seen with a broken leg resulting from an accident, according to the students and has been unable to receive adequate medical care due to financial constraints.
During the visit, the students stated that over 400 Nigerian scholarship students in the same city are facing similar conditions. They also claimed that Nigerian students in other countries, including Russia, are experiencing comparable challenges.
VeryDarkMan, reacting to the accounts shared by the students, called on the Federal Government to take action, stating that the students are demanding what they were originally promised under the scholarship programme. He said he was no longer pleading but insisting that their rights be addressed.
The activist also informed the students that donations have been made to support them temporarily.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government has not responded to the video or the fresh claims made by the students.
