Cameroon’s Constitutional Council has declared President Paul Biya, aged 92, winner of the country’s presidential election, securing his eighth consecutive term in office.

Biya, who has ruled Cameroon for 43 years, received 53.66% of the votes, defeating his main challenger, Issa Tchiroma, who polled 35.19%. The result extends Biya’s tenure until 2032, making him the world’s oldest serving head of state.

The announcement has triggered widespread protests across the country, with opposition supporters alleging electoral fraud. At least four people were killed in clashes between protesters and security forces in Douala, according to local reports.

Tchiroma rejected the results, claiming victory and urging citizens to defend “the truth of the ballot box.”

Biya, who first came to power in 1982, has faced persistent criticism for authoritarian rule and electoral manipulation, but remains a dominant figure in Central African politics.
