President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after attending the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting in Rome, Italy.

The Aqaba Process, launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, is a counter-terrorism initiative co-chaired by Jordan and Italy. The Rome session focused on boosting international cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism, especially in West Africa.

The high-level meeting, held on October 15 at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, was attended by global leaders including King Abdullah II, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the Presidents of Nigeria, Chad, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

On the sidelines, President Tinubu met with Prime Minister Meloni, Massad Boulos (Senior Adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs), and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin to discuss religious harmony and countering disinformation about Nigeria’s religious tolerance.

The Aqaba Process is anchored on prevention, coordination, and closing operational gaps in global counterterrorism efforts.
