The Ogun State Government is set to formally commission the Gateway International Airport (GWI) in Iperu, with ValueJet announcing the commencement of scheduled flights to the facility.
In a statement on Friday, the airline said it will operate twice weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing GWI at 8:30 a.m. for Abuja and returning at 4:00 p.m., arriving Iperu by 5:15 p.m. Tickets for the new service went on sale on September 25 through travel agents and the airport.
ValueJet’s Accountable Manager, Capt. Omololu Dapo Majekodunmi, described the development as part of the airline’s expansion plan to meet rising demand in Ogun, providing an alternative to Lagos and Ibadan airports.
The Gateway International Airport received its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on August 15, 2025, authorising it to handle scheduled commercial flights.
Meanwhile, at the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) and the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen international cooperation on aircraft accident and incident investigations.
