The Ekiti State Government has banned graduation ceremonies for kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to a statement shared on its official X handle, the directive applies to both public and private schools. The government said the decision is aimed at easing the financial and logistical burden on parents and ensuring schools focus on improving education quality rather than hosting elaborate parties.
The state also announced a new textbook review policy, limiting changes in primary schools to once every six years and in secondary schools to once every four years. Authorities said this would promote sustainability and reduce unnecessary costs.
The government warned that schools that fail to comply with the new directives risk sanctions from the Ministry of Education.
Ekiti joins states such as Imo, Edo, Ogun, Ondo and Abia which have also banned graduation ceremonies in schools.
