The Federal Government has revoked the 5% excise duty on telecommunications services, including voice calls and data subscriptions.

NCC boss Dr. Aminu Maida confirmed that President Bola Tinubu ordered the removal to ease financial pressure on citizens and support Nigeria’s digital economy.

The levy, introduced under ex-President Buhari in 2022, had faced backlash from operators and consumer groups, who warned it worsened living costs.The move is expected to bring relief to Nigeria’s over 171 million active telecom users.
