The Federal Government has directed that by 2027, only secondary schools with certified teachers will retain accreditation to host public exams such as WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and SAISSCE.
Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa said schools with unlicensed teachers under the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) will lose accreditation.
The directive requires 75% compliance by 2026 and full compliance by 2027. Teachers without education degrees but with at least 12 months’ classroom experience are urged to enrol in the National Teachers Institute for fast-track certification.
