The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the commencement of major reconstruction works at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
In a travel advisory issued on Friday, FAAN urged passengers to arrive early for their flights to avoid delays, stressing that renovation activities will cause disruptions within the airport premises.
The project is part of the Federal Government’s N900 billion aviation infrastructure upgrade approved by the Federal Executive Council on August 1. The rehabilitation of MMIA’s Terminal One is a central component, with the works estimated to cost N712.25 billion and expected to last 22 months.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, said the reconstruction will involve stripping the terminal to its structural base and rebuilding all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to modern standards.
“To ensure a smooth travel experience, we kindly request that passengers leave early for the airport to avoid missing flights, obey traffic instructions to aid traffic flow, and park vehicles properly in designated areas,” FAAN stated.
The agency also advised that, due to limited space, only passengers should access the airport during the reconstruction period.
MMIA, Nigeria’s busiest airport, serves as a critical hub for both domestic and international travel.
