Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has approved the immediate reopening of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, following a thorough review of security arrangements and infrastructural upgrades at the institution.
The university had been temporarily shut down due to security challenges and the tragic loss of lives within the campus community.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the governor expressed satisfaction with the new security framework and facility improvements now in place to protect students, staff, and visitors.
As a result, Governor Bago has directed that academic activities resume on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The SSG reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring safety, welfare, and academic continuity across all higher institutions in Niger State.
