The United States has implemented a new $250 visa integrity fee for all non-immigrant visa applicants, under a sweeping immigration reform bill known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by the Trump administration.
According to the legislation, the visa integrity fee will be paid only upon visa approval. Applicants whose visas are denied will not be charged. However, no waivers will be granted, making the payment compulsory for all approved applicants.
The bill states that a partial or full refund of the $250 fee may be issued if travelers fully comply with their visa terms, including:
- No unauthorized employment
- No attempt to overstay
- Exiting the U.S. within five days of visa expiration
Lawful permanent residents (green card recipients) may also qualify for a refund. However, the bill does not provide specific procedures for filing such claims.
The Secretary of Homeland Security is authorized to increase the fee at their discretion, suggesting the amount could rise based on future policy decisions or enforcement needs.
This new visa policy reflects the Trump administration’s tighter stance on immigration, aiming to ensure stricter compliance with U.S. visa regulations. It may significantly affect how students, tourists, and temporary workers plan their travels to the United States.
