Nigeria has lost one of its most prominent businessmen and philanthropists, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away at the age of 94. A family source confirmed that the elder statesman died on Friday night in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, following a brief illness. He reportedly died around 3am Nigerian time at a hospital in Abu Dhabi.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
Born on May 19, 1931, in Kano, Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a towering figure in Nigeria’s business world, playing a key role in the country’s private sector development for several decades. His contributions to commerce and industry earned him respect both nationally and internationally.
Beyond his business acumen, Dantata was a generous philanthropist, known for supporting numerous educational and humanitarian initiatives across Nigeria.
He is survived by seven children and many grandchildren, including Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata.
