The Trump administration has reversed its decision to terminate the visa registrations of thousands of international students in the U.S., following widespread legal challenges and public outcry. The Department of Justice announced that it would reinstate student records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) until a new policy is formulated.

This reversal comes after numerous lawsuits were filed against the administration, with judges issuing temporary restraining orders and criticizing the abrupt terminations as lacking due process. The initial decision had left many students, some with minor or dismissed legal infractions, at risk of deportation and in a state of uncertainty.

While the reinstatement of SEVIS records provides temporary relief, the administration has indicated that it will develop a new policy to guide future terminations. Critics warn that this could lead to stricter regulations rather than an end to the clampdown.

The White House has not yet commented on the situation. Meanwhile, immigration attorneys and advocacy groups continue to push for clear and fair policies that protect the rights of international students.
