Ms Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has urged women and youth to work hard to improve their livelihood and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

She was speaking during the Mpigi District Women’s Day celebrations held at Kamengo Police Playground on Saturday.

“Our reports in the ministry show that women and youth work less compared to men and this is another challenge to productivity. Work hard and form groups to get government support. Our local leaders should also sensitise you on empowerment and embracing government programmes for prosperity,” she said.

She called upon the women to champion the fight against corruption and poor service delivery, saying it is their duty to help the government in providing better services through giving advice and monitoring the works in public offices.

Ms Sarah Nakawunde, Mpigi District woman MP also urged women to help their husbands in paying school fees for their children, surprise their lovers with shirts and trousers and feed them well.

Meanwhile, Mr Peter Mutuluza, the district chairman castigated men for neglecting their families which has led to domestic violence.

“You don’t care about your wives and children, you do zzina (adultery) and beating up your wives. This should stop if we need peace at our homes,” he said.
