MAKING THINGS BETTER: It’s Okay To Feel Excited!

Reading the papers every day, reading the exchange of comments on social media, and indeed listening to the news, I think it would be fair to suggest that the bulk of information around is negative and predicting further gloom and doom. This is perfectly understandable based on all the various occurrences taking place around the country and the world. However, there’s more than one outlook to have. It’s the same way you can always find blessings all around you even in the midst of all the pain, challenges and unhappiness you might be surrounded with.

We know very well that there are people whose raison d’être is to cause as much mayhem, disharmony as they can muster and to bring as much pain and hurt to as many people as they can (the mind boggles at what motivates such people!). Thankfully, equally there are people, who are determined to bring something else to the world; who work tirelessly to bring something good, something informative and enhancing to counter the negative.

Enter the Above Whispers community. Yes, that’s us. It’s okay to feel and be excited about change for the better, to want to be kind, to want to uplift one another , to want to make a dent and disrupt the status quo. The expression’ if it aint broke don’t fix it’ doesn’t apply here, cos it’s plenty broke and needs fixing! We are a growing community, a strong and determined people with loud voices, with vision and a hope to make things better. Now you can be sure as we grow we will most definitely In addition to attracting likeminded people (as the law of attraction suggests), it will be inevitable (sadly) that those who live in darkness will also find their way to this bright light with the intention to dim it or ultimately put it out! So we must be vigilant, close ranks, nip it in the bud, and stamp out such efforts when we see it. This applies to all manner of negativity where we are faced with it, including our individual selves. We must strive to live righteously, be honourable and stay true to the intentions we have set for ourselves individually and as a community.

This does not stop healthy debate, disagreements and the questioning of different views. We welcome and encourage different voices. We can all be heard, hear one another and learn from one another. We all know the difference between healthy debate and disrupters or mischief makers. There is zero tolerance for that on Above Whispers.

A few weeks ago our dear First Lady Erelu Bisi Fayemi talked eloquently about making choices that will determine our future paths. We sometimes forget that no matter what situation we find ourselves in, we always have choices. Even when it is not a physical choice, you can choose how to think about the situation you are in which may ultimately change it physically or make it better in the long run. Just think of Nelson Mandela and others like him who suffered untold abuse and violence but held on to their minds! You are choosing to be part of the AW community for your own enlightenment, I trust and believe for the enrichment of your family and friends and the wider world. The First Lady has set out an exciting, powerful agenda. It’s not about trampling over anyone or mowing anyone down to get ahead (that’s not how we role!). However there’s a road to travel, a convergence, a new day, so we encourage people to get on board, be part of the solution. If not, we respectfully (or not as the case may be) ask you to step aside cos aint no stopping us now! (Are you down?).

I’m sure you can feel my excitement or some may describe it in other ways (I don’t mind). When you believe in something you know is for good and you are surrounded by likeminded people who want to bring about change, it’s something to revel in. So let’s step it up and keep it up. Let’s do our part whenever and wherever we can. Let’s encourage and support one another, just the way you have been bringing your positive energy to this sight. Let’s do what we know is right and call out what we know is bad. In this column there will always be the theme of hope, love, and courage in as many guises as I know how. So no apologies for what you may read as repetitions of mantras. I also have an agenda, one that has been my lives work to date. Those who read this column might have picked up on it. If not the clue is in the title of the column!  I can safely and confidently say we are all under the umbrella of Above Whispers whose reason for existence is to empower, educate, inform, encourage, entertain and bring positive change in people’s lives. Tell us how you are making things better in people’s lives. There’s nothing too small, every bit counts.

So to quote some statements that while not original, still carry weight: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country‘, ‘Let’s make Nigeria great again’, ‘yes we can’ (dropping the mic, fist pump, high five!). Back to normal transmission next time…

Make yourself better, make someone else’s life better, make the world around you better.

The mantra making life better has become one of my slogans and goes with this yoruba slogan “S’ogun laiye ni.” Thank you for your consistent efforts and sincerely Abovewhispers is a community that should spread across the globe. I have been well informed and still being informed. God bless Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.
