The Funding Space Event Explores Opportunities For Women

It was a special time for women entrepreneurs, social activists, Non-governmental organizations, social entrepreneurs and creatives as they were all under one roof and were informed, educated and networked with potential financiers. This event was organized by Afrigrant Institution, an organization that deals with the monetary aspect of ideas.

They are known as the grantors of ideas as they give grants to entrepreneurs, NGOs to push their work from start to finish. Though they are centered around women entrepreneurs and organizations because it’s been discovered that women are the most neglected groups in the society even though they are totally efficient and passionate.

The chairperson of the event was Erelu Bisi Adeleye – Fayemi, the co-founder of African Women Development Fund {AWDF}, CEO of Abovewhispers media group which also focuses on women. She is an activist and a woman passionate for women empowerment.

She spoke to women on getting together as one and to run their organizations with a proper business module. She also encouraged women to be open and ask appropriate questions. She gave insights that women should invest in themselves by contributing to what other women are doing. A little goes a long way and she encouraged women to be passionate, be honest and have integrity when they are given grants. The grants should not be used as a personal venture but must be invested to do its original purpose.

The guest appearance at the event was Nobel Laureate Winner, Leymah Gbowee who said the role of women in the society cannot be overemphasised as women and youths play a major role in nation building and advancement. She called out that women should be helped, invested in and made relevant where necessary.

The organizers of the event, Miss Thelma Ekiyor and Mrs Doris Mbadiwe were glad that women had the opportunity to be rightly educated. The women had different sessions to talk, pitch their businesses, network with their mentors and also with other business partners and owners.

The Bank Of Industry was also there to help women know the various facilities available for them and how they can channel it into their businesses and organisations. It was a great time for women to meet financiers and understand the validity of a finance book and module for their businesses and organisations.

Mrs Comfort Lamptey, UN Women country director for Nigeria was also present to tell women what the UN is about and how ready they are to finance, support women and their ideas.

She also mentioned that Nigeria is a place where a lot of passionate women dwell and it’s been a pleasure staying here seeing that women empowerment is key in the hearts of the key players in the society.

The event continues today at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria-Island, Lagos.
