Rant Of The Day – Nigerian Weddings

By Grace Shaibu

I love my country, we are so peculiarly made. The way we are made is just so different in style and thoughts. There is a Nigerian uniqueness in everything, it cannot be mimicked, if you don’t have it , you don’t!

But, this Nigerian touch can be ovewhelming atimes, especially when it comes to ceremonies. We can make the host/organizers/event planners look like fools.

Take for instance, weddings! Most of the time, you find out that those getting married do not know half of the people present at the wedding, and you know what that means, the food and drinks become insufficient.

Just last saturday, a friend invited me to a wedding and I asked who was getting married, she said, she does not even know the person  but a friend of the person’s friend, invited her to the wedding and said she could invite someone along.

Oh Jeez! You see what i’m saying? Then, we get there and make the guests triple, the food for 200guests becomes the same food for 500{majorly uninvited guests} and those of us, who just tagged along, will be the ones complaining that the food isn’t enough. The caterers didn’t serve efficiently. Really? How could they have served efficiently?

If you are in the habit of going to weddings uninvited…Don’t you ever complain of food or drinks! Stop the we all should celebrate with who is celebrating thing, You can celebrate them in your house and in your mind. You don’t have to be there!

Lmao. My sister’s wedding ehn? she got so angry when she saw her photo book. 95percent of those present were my mum’s friends, children friends and friends of friends. It’s a Nigerian thing o. I don’t know if it will change

My dear grace, this is real. When a Nigerian says, the plan is for 200persons, just plan for 500 o. Because, some people will just be passing by and stop by. They will now be the ones to be shouting and glamouring for food.

#Owambe.. You didn’t add the mo gbo mo ya specialist.lol!! Anyways this is a Nigerian wedding. People will hear and will want to come and most times it is the family members that have most guests and not the bride and groom. Naija wedding is fun though.

Lmao, I can relate so well. Mo gbo mo ya specialities, I was invited gang………. LOL.
That’s Nigerian weddings thou, the bride and groom can’t know everybody na @Joshua Josh, so it’s a normal thing to see faces you don’t know. So if you are planning Wedding be expecting x2 of your guest if you are not doing strictly by invitation.
