Sokoto, MSF Sponsor 36 Plastic Surgeries

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, of Sokoto-based Noma Hospital, Dr. Bello Ahmed, has disclosed that 36 plastic surgeries have been carried out on Cancrum Oris patients by the hospital between January and February.
He told newsmen, yesterday, that Cancrum Oris patients and those with bone injuries, accident-related facial, limb and body deformities were operated upon by surgeons from the United States of America and Germany.
Ahmed said: “About 90 percent of the patients were children, ”adding that the cost of the surgeries, drugs, feeding and accommodation ýwere borne by Sokoto State government and Medicines Sans Frontiers, MSF. He added that 48 patients from Nigeria and neighbouring countries had been screened for another exercise to be performed by another team of surgeons who would be in Sokoto in April.
