A traditional ruler in Katsina State has been relieved of his title after he was implicated in a rape case.
The traditional ruler, Bishir Bala Kofar-bai was suspended as the ‘Magatakarda’ by the Kastina Emirate owing to the charges of rape levelled against him.
The traditional ruler’s suspension was made known in a statement released by the Secretary of the council, Bello Ifo to newsmen on Thursday.
The suspended traditional ruler was accused of allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl who is also the daughter of one his servants.
The victim’s parents were reported to have brought the matter to the hearing of authorities which led to the arrest of the traditional ruler by men of the Nigerian Police after the victim was attended to medically.
The suspension also comes on the heels of mounted pressure by the state’s Coalition of Civil Society Organisations which demanded proper investigation and justice in the alleged rape case.
The traditional ruler’s suspension will however be lifted should he be vindicated and proven not guilty of the charge against him.
