The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Julia Duncan Cassel, is calling for gender sensitivity in the security sector of Liberia.
Minister Cassel noted that Liberian women played a significant role in ending the civil war in Liberia, but women have over the years been marginalized in the security sector.
The Gender Minister made the assertion Tuesday at the 60th Armed Forces Day Symposium held at the Monrovia City Hall.
She noted that Liberian women in the security sector are not given the opportunity to be at the decision-making level, noting that this is discriminatory.
Cassel pointed out that gender sensitivity within the ranks and files of the security sector means that positions should be based on the merit system and not discriminatory.
Minister Cassel emphasized that Liberian women must be given the chance to ascend to higher levels in the security sector, if peace and security should be sustained.
