IWD2016: Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi named as Goodwill Ambassador to UN Women, Nigeria.

This took place at the ceremony to celebrate the 2016 edition of the international women’s day at the National Women Centre in Abuja. The event was hosted by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in Partnership with United Nations Women, Nigeria and the European Union.
The UN Women representative to Nigeria, Dr. Grace Ongile before delivering the speech of the Secretary General made the official announcement of Mrs. Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi and veteran broadcaster, Mrs. Moji Makanjuola as Goodwill Ambassadors to the agency.

She informed that the position was merit-based, as the agency recognized the need to associate with relevant stakeholders in tandem with their mandate. She said she was optimistic that Mrs. Fayemi’s wealth of experience as a Gender Specialist and a Pan-African women’s rights advocate will be invaluable to the agency. In her recognition of Mrs. Makanjuola, a veteran Journalist and broadcaster, she stated that it reflects the agency’s acknowledgment  of the media as a critical stakeholder in achieving the objectives of UN Women, Nigeria.

In their acceptance speech, Mrs. Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi assured the agency of her continued commitment in partnership through Abovewhispers.com (an online platform she established aimed primarily but not exclusively for women) as well as providing expert advice as required. Mrs. Moji Makunjuola also pledged to ensure the achievement of the agency’s mandate within her capacity and network in the Media.
