The long queues witnessed in recent weeks in most filling stations across Lagos is fizzling out, following increased supply of petroleum products by the NNPC, Daily Trust has learnt.

Daily Trust reports that though there were assurances from government that the queues would disappear in Lagos last Wednesday, this did not happen until weekend when there was a clear departure from the past.

Unlike before when motorists spent four, five hours and more queuing for fuel, the situation has now improved. With less than an hour, motorists are now able to fill their tanks.

“For the first time since the scarcity started, I was able to buy fuel at normal price and I spent just 50 minutes at a filling station along Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Berger”, said a motorist, Segun Isaac.

On the evening of Saturday, Daily Trust observed that Oando filling station in Ojodu was dispensing ditto NNPC filling station at Omole. Also, a Mobil station at Agidingbi-Ikeja was also dispensing, all with minimal queues.

A motorist, Mr. Olanrewaju Ayinde told our correspondent that he spent about 25 minutes queuing at the Agidingbi filling station.

“Once you are on queue, they would give you a tag and that would serve as an entry pass to enter. With this, you cannot jump the queue and manipulate your way in thereby causing confusion and commotion at the filling station”, he said.

Our correspondent also observed that relative sanity had been restored to most filling stations as motorists now queue in an orderly manner. This was after the government warned motorists and filling stations that it would not tolerate indiscriminate parking of vehicles which resulted in traffic snarls across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, other filling stations like Total and MRS at Ojota were dispensing with minimal queues just like others at Iwaya road, Yaba, Ikorodu road, Marina, among others. However, they were not selling inside Jerry cans even despite fervent pleas from some motorists who said they needed to buy inside Jerry cans to power their generating sets.

Other motorists who spoke with our correspondent expressed optimism that the improvement would be sustained throughout the week to completely eliminate long queues at filling stations.
