As of August 5, the confirmed Covid-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 978,527.
Reported deaths in Africa have reached 21,100 and recoveries 652,077.
South Africa has the most reported cases – 521,318, with deaths numbering 8,884. The next most most-affected countries are Egypt (94,752, Nigeria (44,433), Ghana (37,812) and Algeria (32,504).
The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
