Rant Of The Day – The Spirit Of ‘Hoarding’

By Grace Shaibu

Hello Readers,

Welcome to the rant column.

As a typical and observant Nigerian, I have noticed something very crucial but at the same time despicable about us and that’s the ‘Necessity to Hoard’. Have you wondered that a lot of Nigerians never have what you ask them even though they have it in abundance? For instance, You ask the Bus driver for your balance, he says, he doesn’t ‘change’ while he has a lot of it in his pocket. You go to meet someone for a book, biro, bucket or whatever it is, they decline to give saying they don’t have and meanwhile, they have more than one to give. But why? Why do we find it very difficult to give in this part of the world. I mean, honesty is now a trash thing in this present world because no one wants to come out clean anymore.

Let me give another example, You have a passenger who wants to get on a bus and the conductor keeps saying, ‘enter with your change o’ and that person has the exact bus fare but decides to give the bus conductor a higher denomination and this freaks the bus conductor out, he starts screaming that he doesn’t have change but this passenger knows, she has the exact amount but she doesn’t want to give it and you know the excuse,  ‘I might still be in need of it later’. This problem got us to where we are as a country. We have decided not to give the necessary to nation building because some people just do not want to give what it takes.

Whatever you have in excess and you don’t give will definitely become a waste and by that time, You will regret every bit of your actions. Remember, You might have it smooth and go cheering yourself over it but Karma is a well Packaged Bitch!

Have a great week!

That change scenario is very real. That’s when some people will disturb the driver and when they are about approaching their bus stop they will tell the driver to give them the money and then bring out the change they had all this while. Very pathetic!

Lol. I couldn’t help but laugh while reading. This is a very annoying but funny thing we do here and I wonder why we just feel comfortable doing what is mentally sickening.

Lol! We can hoard things abeg in this country. Once beaten, twice shy ooo that is the main reason for hoarding.

Lol. You can’t blame the passenger. He or She needs lower denomination to continue her journey. But on a serious note, hoarding is bad. Even the Good Book condenms hoarding.
