Gunmen Abduct 78-Year Old Woman, Lecturer, Four Others in Rivers

Some gunmen at the weekend abducted a 78-year old Mrs. Comfort Nkpuninue, a lecturer and four others in Rivers State.

The woman was kidnapped from her residence in Teka Sogho community in Khana Local Council Area of the state.

Also, armed men have abducted a lecturer at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Dr. Adokiye Kalio, alongside four others at different locations in the state.

The Guardian leant that the captors of the aged woman had initially demanded a N7 million ransom, which they later reduced to N3 million.

The first son of the septuagenarian, Jaja Tsaroh N-ue, has appealed to the security agencies to prevail on the abductors to release her mother unconditionally.

Meanwhile, a socio-political group, Akere Khana, has condemned the Kidnap of the aged woman and urged the security agencies and the local council to ensure her immediate release.

Similarly, the chairperson of the Ignatius Ajuru University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to Khana’s abductors to release him unconditionally.

According to the union, the lecturer was abducted when he attempted to rescue three members of one family, who were kidnapped by the gunmen.

Meanwhile, the Civil Liberty Organisation in the state (CLO) has reiterated its call for the establishment of a Neighborhood Watch to address the issues of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

The state chairman of the group, Sotonye George, made the appeal, following the kidnap of one Nimi Jack, along Victoria Street, in Port Harcourt metropolis, at the weekend.

Meanwhile, a businesswoman, Mrs. Tina Bobmanuel, who had earlier been captured by some gunmen in Woji area of Port Harcourt is yet to be freed, even after the kidnappers had allegedly collected a ransom of N5.3 million.
