Welcome to the rant column.
In Africa, we have a communal system. We believe that everyone should be concerned about each other and that’s why when we greet,we ask about almost everything and everyone. In bringing up a child too, it is the same. In fact, there is a saying that, ”A mother gives birth to the child but the community trains the child”.
Everyone is involved in training the child. I agree, it’s a good way but sometimes it can be disgustingly annoying. There are some people who don’t applaud a child when the mother of the child is praising her but when they see her scolding the child, they show their face.
They add ‘ginger, salt and pepper’ to make the mother beat the child more and it’s annoying. That’s a foolish adult. If as an adult you don’t know when to keep mute and apply wisdom, then you are a very foolish adult! You can appease to the mother to take it easy and then call the child and speak sense to the child but don’t go there yelling and saying all the things the child has done from childbirth till date. That’s being very foolish. That’s an attitude that only a numbskull will exhibit.
When that adage was made, it was speaking to the wise, those who know what discretion is and not the fools who think they can just prop up and make a child suffer just because they feel the child should be spanked.

There was one aunty then when I was younger that will always come in when my mum wants to beat me. Instead of begging my mum for me, she will carry the cane and flog me for my mum. one day, I intentionally waived the it hit her on her mouth. I was so glad even though I was punished but I was very happppppy!

But chei! This writer has bad mouth sha. This is true and funny especially with the adjectives she used. Jeeez! This kinda person must not abuse one physically o.
Looool. This is a funny one. I had such an experience as a child. I mean, when mummy starts beating me and I can scream for Africa, that’s when one annoying neighbor will come and say, close your mouth, when you won’t hear word. That’s when my mum will increase the cane again. Foolish people.
Lol. Fortunately I can’t say I experienced this as a child, all our neighbors are nice people or maybe we were just too good as children that they couldn’t bear for us to be spanked anytime we misbehaved. I still can relate sha, bad Belle people are plenty in this country.
Funny I must say. Some people who engage in such action don’t even discipline their own children when they misbehave.
