Today is the world sickle cell awareness day. It’s a day laid for everyone to have tangible information about the sickle cell disease.
So, today, instead of sharing the ills about sickle in an article, we are sharing the story of a warrior. A young lady who against the odds of her condition as a person living with the sickle cell disease is standing strong to help the society understand the scope of the disease via awareness and getting medications for people living without basic ability to get the medications needed.
In an interview with AboveWhispers, she shares her story with us.
” My name is Beauty Onuoha, I am the last of eight kids, My parents are late and I am a warrior{meaning I live with the sickle cell disease} We are called warriors not according to what the society calls us ‘sicklers’. My dad was a medical doctor though. Living with the sickle cell disease isn’t funny. It’s pain beyond explanations. It’s like a ticking bomb waiting to explode but with the willpower to see beyond my status and having good love around me, I am still standing”
Miss Beauty Onuoha has an initiative that helps people living with the disease and also advocates the necessity of knowing your genotype. This initiative is called LIFE TO SICKLE CELL. It started 2016 and has had two events which was channeled to raising funds to support those living with the sickle cell disease without financial support. Life To Sickle Cell is a two-edged sword helping the society get the required information about the sickle cell disease and also raising funds for those living with it.
“You cannot understand what it means to live with pain, something very excruciating as this. Some people don’t have the money to get the required medications that’s why Life To Sickle Cell Initiative is set out to help them in our own little way.We believe that if they get the timely assistance needed, they will be stronger will live longer”’.
She is an entrepreneur whose love for making food has made her create a career path for herself. This initiative is actually the brainchild of her food company, Switly’s Signature.
