In Nigeria, we just love to talk and talk and talk! We prefer gossiping to sincere show of affection. Yesterday evening, as I was going home, I saw two lovers holding hands and speaking intimately on the road.

They were walking on a pavement. I was in a car and with some other persons, we all saw them and there were different reactions. For me, I smiled at the moves because it was very sweet and unconsciously, I uttered the word, “very sweet”. That’s how a lady right behind me started talking.

“What is sweet about this one? they are showing themselves like children and you are saying it’s sweet, We just like nonsense in this country” I was amazed at her statement as if that wasn’t enough, another man said, “If not for the society we live in, what is this on the road where people are passing by” I couldn’t take it anymore, I didn’t understand why they would be angry? Really, why? They were holding hands and being all lovey-dovey on a pavement so, what’s the stress?

They aren’t kissing?

They aren’t having sex?

What is against the eyes of the public in this scenario.Suddenly, I asked the woman, Madame, did you build the pavement? She said NO? I put forth a second question, Are they holding your hands or that of this man right here? They said Nope. Then if not, Mind your business!

It’s their hands, it’s their legs and the government built the pavement. So, face your own because they didn’t stop our car from moving. Then I wondered, why we just like to speak unnecessarily.
