The Executive governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode has revealed that the daily consumption of foodstuffs in the state runs to about N3 billion.

The state governor made this known while challenging farmers in the country to produce more in order to meet the local demands and also make profit from the already available market.

Ambode made this known in Lagos yesterday at the maiden edition of the Lagos Food Security and Exhibition Summit.

At the summit which was themed: “Actualising Sustainable Food Security in Lagos State: A New Comprehensive Agenda,” Ambode said: “Nigeria has no business importing foodstuffs to feed its citizens. We must cultivate the land and improve efficiency in the agricultural value chain.”

He added: “Our core policy thrust towards achieving food security is to maximise the comparative advantage of the state in agriculture and partner other states.”

He further revealed that the state had acquired landed properties in Ogun, Osun and Oyo states including Abuja in order to boos rice production in the country.
