The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count criminal charge against Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The charges stem from social media posts on X and Facebook, where Sowore allegedly described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “a criminal” and accused him of lying about corruption in Nigeria. The DSS said the posts were false, inciting, and intended to cause public disorder.
Also listed as defendants are X Corp and Meta Inc., owners of the social media platforms. The DSS noted that both companies failed to comply with its demand to delete Sowore’s accounts after a one-week ultimatum.
Sowore, however, said he is ready to appear in court once the case is assigned for trial.
