The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Maulud, the annual celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

In a statement released on Wednesday, Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced the holiday on behalf of the Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. He noted that these values remain essential for building a united, stable, and prosperous Nigeria.

The celebration of Eid-ul-Maulud offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the minister said.

He also called on all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to pray for peace, security, and national unity, while remaining law-abiding and security conscious.

The minister wished all Muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid-ul-Maulud celebration.
