A Kaduna-bound passenger train derailed yesterday, leaving several coaches overturned and forcing passengers to flee in panic. The incident happened around 11:09 a.m. between Kubwa and Asham stations, shortly after the train left Abuja.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the derailment, saying emergency teams, medics, and security operatives were deployed to evacuate passengers. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said six people sustained injuries but no deaths were recorded. Investigators have been dispatched to determine the cause.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani ordered swift evacuation, treatment, and relief for victims, assuring government support.
Former senator Shehu Sani blamed negligence, saying passengers had long complained about track conditions but were ignored.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail line, one of Nigeria’s busiest, has suffered repeated disruptions, including the 2022 terrorist attack that killed and abducted commuters.
