Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has announced that he will not be seeking any political office in the 2027 elections, stating that his renewed involvement in politics is strictly to support credible leadership.

El-Rufai made this known in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a group of youths who defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello.

Taking a swipe at the current administration, the former governor said Nigerians are already aware of the government’s failings.

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate or any other position. What we need to do is unite and ensure we remove the oppressors,” he said.

El-Rufai explained that after leaving office, his plan was to step away from partisan politics. However, recent events, he noted, pushed him to return—not with personal ambition, but to mentor and support others.

According to him, his focus now is on empowering young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to take ownership of the political process.

He also urged youths to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that their power lies in their numbers.

“In Lagos and Osun, at least 600,000 people registered. But in Kaduna, only 60,000. Anyone who is 18 years old should go and register, even with your phone. Registration gives you the right to choose who governs you,” he advised.
