Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has promised to amend Nigeria’s constitution and eradicate corruption within one month if elected President in 2027.

Speaking during an online discussion on X Spaces titled “Weekend Politics” last Friday, Amaechi said one of his first actions as President would be to change the constitution’s focus from indigeneship to citizenship, aiming to foster national unity.

He boldly declared, “If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation.”

Amaechi also challenged the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Babajide Wike, to walk through the streets of Port Harcourt to witness firsthand who truly enjoys public support.

The former Rivers State governor further accused powerful figures of frequently visiting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to misappropriate funds, which he said have worsened Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.

Describing Professor Yakubu Mahmood as the “worst Chairman” in the history of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amaechi criticized the commission’s leadership under Mahmood.

On economic policy, Amaechi said he would not reverse the removal of fuel subsidies if elected. Instead, he pledged to redirect the funds to benefit ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite.
