Tragedy struck in Niger State as heavy rainfall led to the destruction of homes and the loss of at least 21 lives. The downpour, which occurred on Thursday, caused severe flooding in two communities, submerging around 50 houses and leaving over 10 people unaccounted for.

According to Ibrahim Hussaini, Director of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, rescue operations are still ongoing in the affected areas. “Twenty-one bodies have so far been recovered, while over 10 persons remain missing,” he confirmed.

This incident highlights the growing concerns around extreme weather events and the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and infrastructure, especially in vulnerable communities.
