Happy New Year!!!
The air is dry, the cold bites hard in the mornings and the heat of the afternoon makes you miss the mornings. Despite all that the harmattan brings, everyone loves a new year. As we put on fresh coating of lip balm on our lips and think up new year resolutions, we smile at the thought of life giving us a another chance to start afresh and make changes that will make us feel better about ourselves.
On the road to revamping ourselves, our wardrobe is not left out because how we look, from our underwear to our shoes tell a lot about how we feel or want to feel about ourselves. The way you look can empower you, boost your confidence and open doors for you if you do it right. It is important that your wardrobe reflects who you want to be this new year.
Below are the three “WHATS” you need to ask yourself in order to successfully revamp your wardrobe;
WHAT DO I HAVE
This is you taking an inventory of your wardrobe. It is important to know what kinds of clothes you have and how many of each kind you have. This helps you see what belongs and what does not belong in your wardrobe anymore. For clothes that you would still want to keep, take note of what needs repairs and fix them.
For items you do not want anymore, take note of what can be donated or given away and what belongs to the dustbin. Be sure to keep all sentiments aside while doing this. Clothes that have become too tight, have been fixed many times or are damaged no longer belong to your wardrobe no matter how much you love them. Make room for better items.
WHAT DO I NEED
To answer this question, you have to know what you already have so you can know what you will have to buy. The type of things you will have to buy depends on factors like your dress size, your workplace, your lifestyle and the way you want to feel about yourself when you look at the mirror. If you work in a place that requires a specific uniform, then you will not need a lot of work clothes.
If you are on the plus side and want to appear slimmer, then the colour black and vertical stripes are your friends. If you want to appear wider, horizontal stripes, ball skirts and bright colours are your friends. If you are an extroverted person who loves to go out leisurely, then you will need a lot of casuals.
If you want to feel confident, intelligent or hot or all three of them at once anytime you see yourself in a mirror or a reflective glass door or window, then what you need to get should be able to help you feel these.
WHAT DO I WANT
After you’ve successfully gotten all you need, it is time to ask yourself what you want if you still have extra cash to spare. Almost everyone has that designer clothing they’ve been eyeing. Your wardrobe can do without this item comfortably but you want it all the same.
It adds an air of luxury to your wardrobe. What better time to get it than the new year. Remember that this option should only be taken if you have extra cash to spare, and by that I do not mean forfeiting your mandatory/required bills (water, food, light, housing, etc.) for it. No, that won’t be smart at all.
So that’s it people. Be sure to enjoy the new year and your new wardrobe. Until next week, stay glam!
