President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano for his victory at the state’s governorship election.
In a statement made available on Tuesday by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, Buhari said the success of the election is a proof that his administration’s electoral reforms are bearing positive fruits. Governor Obiano had secured a landslide victory, winning in all the 21 local government areas in the state.
Buhari also commended other candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers as well as security agencies on the peaceful conduct of the poll. Adesina also quoted Buhari as saying that, “the processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits”. Buhari also described as “heart-warming”, the conduct of the candidates after the election results were announced.
He urged INEC to improve on areas of logistics ahead of the 2019 governorship and presidential elections. Buhari urged the governor to rededicate himself to “building on his achievements that endeared him to the electorate and swayed the overwhelming majority of votes in his favour”.
“President Buhari assured the governor-elect that the federal government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra state but the entire country,”
