Welcome to the rant column

The streets of Lagos has so many shops—physical shops and mobile shops. When you speak of the mobile shops, there are three kinds of it. Those that sell things on the road and those that are destitutes and beg for arms. Then, those that aren’t destitutes but claim to be just because they want to appeal to the conscience of people and beg for arms. These sets of persons are those you would have come across everyday as long as you stay in Lagos.

begging

”Sister, brother please help me, I don’t have food to eat, I lost my wallet and I need to get home. I need just 5o naira to top my fare to make it home”.Hey, I know there are cases that are beyond us but when you see those who have just made it a lifestyle and a job for themselves then, it is annoying and ridiculing. I work hard for what you are begging for and the truth is, what happened to you? You have legs, hands and everything completely fine and you still choose to beg people for money? Nope! There is dignity in labour not in begging.

The ones who claim to need a sum of money to their destination will leave the garage where they can find the bus heading to where they are going and then move somewhere else to sort for arms and my question is, if you are going to Yaba and You come to Agege garage to look for money going to Yaba what is the correlation?. Why don’t you go to Yaba garage and then see if someone can be generous enough to even pay your t-fare?

Laziness isn’t a thing of the physical, it’s a thing of the mind. Some have made begging their hobby, even when they are kept in a poll flourishing with money, They will still Beg!

Lazy Bones!

  1. That stuff annoys me a lot. There is nothing wrong with you and then you decide to beg, some even beg with their children. These are the people that the government should evict not pursuing people from their homes.

  2. You can say that again, They are lazy. There is this particular guy that is always needing money to take him to unilag every time. One day, someone in a bus asked him if he still hasn’t seen the money to take him to Unilag since last week. Imagine, From Oshodi o.

  3. I can remember my secondary days in boarding school there is this woman that begs at the bus stop where I board to school everytime I travel she is always there, for three good years and the only problem she had was her slightly bent mouth…. It’s sooo annoying and shameful

  4. There is no lie in what said. Some couple of days ago, on my way home a woman was begging me for #50 I didn’t give her at first and she almost started to abuse me. I eventually gave her the money not because she derseve it. Its so annoying

  5. I once experienced this in the University. He was a corporate beggar, and i think i was polite with him the first time. The very second time i saw him, he did the same thing and i was really pissed. I find it hard to give those set of people money.

  6. Begging in Lagos is nothing compared to ibadan, an average of 5 people will walk up to you everyday and beg you for something. It’s just pathetic, especially in situations where these beggars are as healthy, young and probably even healthier and younger than you

  7. Sometimes these people are genuinely stranded and you can’t blame them. We just need discernment to know the real beggers and the fake ones.
