The incessant crisis rocking the furniture and fancy section of Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, will soon be a thing of the past.
This is even as the newly sworn-in executive officers of the Amalgamated Traders Union of the market led by Chief Emeka Mozoba, have reiterated their commitment to reconcile all warring factions in the market.
Mozoba who was returned unopposed during the election disclosed that he has extended olive branches to all aggrieved members to allow peace reign for the speedy development of the market.
It would be recalled that the market has been enmeshed in deep crisis for many years as a result of leadership tussle.
Mozoba further said that his executive would leave no stone unturned to ensure that normalcy returns to the market.
According to him: “We are all brothers and sisters and history will not be kind to us if we balkanise the reputable international market our fathers left for us.
“I was the interim chairman of the amalgamated union and in line with our constitution, an election was to be held after 90 days to elect new executives.
But when I called for a meeting three out of the 13 unions objected the meeting and warned that I should not act as chairman.
“We begged them to come and contest if any of them was willing, but none came forward. We are pacifying them to return to the fold to avoid fanning the ember of disunity. ”
However, representative of Hausa traders in the market, Mohammed Muba and his Yoruba counterpart, Mike Sodge, said that their members were part of the peace moves in the market.
The AUTHORITY recalled that prior to the election, many lives have been lost following violence that erupted in the market due to rivalry between the different factions.
