Dear Readers,
Welcome to the rant column.
I want to address something we tend to run away from very often in this part of the world. The act of scolding our elders. I totally understand that we were taught to respect them, keep quiet when they are talking, become defenseless around them but sometimes we know how annoying and very bugging some elders are. Have you met the ones that just override you just because they know they can blackmail you with these words;Like a ‘mother or father’ to you?
For instance, a friend went to the market to get some foodstuff and decided to buy something to snack on, she bought some oranges and pineapple from a particular old woman in the market and this woman wanted to play a fast one on her.She gave her 500 naira and was supposed to get a hundred naira balance but this woman didn’t want to give her, her balance claiming she gave her the exact amount of money worth the fruit she bought. Oh my Dayz! She argued and almost screamed at the woman, trying to take it slow because of her age but this woman wouldn’t be a respectable old woman.
Instead, she started ‘blackmailing’ her of being the old woman who cannot be respected by the girl old enough to be her daughter and guess what? Everyone told my friend to leave and some even asked her to apologise to the woman.
She got home very infuriated and perturbed that she couldn’t stop yelling about the incident and i’m like, why? Why would some elderly people decide to be very myopic and dense in thinking? Oh yeah, the little one should pay for their ‘insanity’. Guess what? One day, the little one would fight and kick their asses to the gutter. If they don’t change, The Market Dance is Loading!

My Sister! This is so true and very deep. I know we have a culture to respect the elders but it will be nice for these elders to respect themselves.
That’s how one woman wanted to try that nonsense with me, I gave it to her, I couldn’t it back and when she wanted to give me that ‘you should have a mother at home crap,’ I told her that, my mum is honourable! I just can’t deal with these annoying and overriding elders.
I can imagine how the writer felt when her friend explained this to her because that feeling resonates through this story. Seriously, there are stupidly annoying elders right there and the worse is if they are family! Oh my dayz!
I can imagine what she must have felt. If it were possible, she would have slapped the woman. That’s just some of them behave
We have them plenty everywhere. I wanted to buy bannan from an old woman yesterday, I have sighted her from distance. Just for me to get closer to her I heard saying please have pity on opharn o (uttered in yoruba). That was how I left her present immediately. I was like is that how to advertise what you are selling??? So annoying.
