The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Friday revealed plans to train no fewer than 200 children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
Making the disclosure in Sokoto during the opening of the 28th National Conference of the Muslim Sisters Organisation of Nigeria, the Sultan said, “There are more than 50,000 of these orphans in various internally displaced persons’ camps in the North-East and one will shed tears if you see them.
While urging the organisation to initiate strategies to curb the high cost of marriages, divorce and drug abuse in the North, the Sultan stressed the importance of girl child education and women empowerment in the society.
National President of the organisation, Hajiya Amina Sakaba, said that the conference was put up to raise the issues affecting the contemporary Muslim woman.
