IN line with the SMART agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, his Senior Special Assistant, SSA on International Relations, Dr Genevieve Mordi, the Executive Secretary, Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, Mrs Shimite Bello and the member representing Aniocha South in the state House of Assembly, Ms Angela Nwaka, have empowered over 300 women across the state with tomatoes, okro and vegetable seedlings.

Speaking during the programme, Dr Mordi said that the empowerment was in pursuance of “The Governor’s Agricultural Reform and Strategic Wealth Creation Programmes, Projects and Provision of Jobs.”

Stressing that it was a reflection of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, she said that the state has abundance of rainfall which could be managed under the right condition to ensure that no produce was out-of-season in the state.

She said: “A majority of the younger generation in Delta State, consider being absorbed into the civil service as the ultimate goal upon graduation. Professional farming be it medium or small scale till date, is erroneously seen as non-glamorous.”
