A non-governmental organisation, Coalition for the Protection of Rights and Justice (CPRJ), has urged the United States of America to dismiss the various moves by Turkey to extradite popular cleric, Fethullah  Gulen, over his alleged involvement in the July 15 botched coup in Turkey.

The group, which made the call during the commemoration of this year’s World Human Rights Day, also called on other countries not to allow the extradition of members and sympathizers of the Gulen-inspired Hizmet Movement living within their shores, saying rule of law was no longer guaranteed in today’s Turkey.

In a statement issued in Abuja at the weekend and signed by the coalition’s National Coordinator,  Raymond Audu, CPRJ said in 1948, the United Nations adopted a universal set of human rights that apply to everybody and wondered  the reason for the seemingly silence following the continuous brazen violation of rights of a significant number of people, especially sympathisers of Gulen Movement by the President Recep Erdogan-led Turkish government.

The coalition, which also bared its mind on the plot to clampdown on Hizmet Movement in 38 countries around the world, further called on the United States to ignore any promises that may come from Ankara about improving its cooperation with Washington if only it were to hand over Gulen, saying doing so would only aggravate the dynamics currently disturbing the US-Turkish relationship and damaging Turkey.

“The United States must not listen to a country like Turkey that continues to show disdain to human rights, on any issue of extradition of Turkish people.  The Gulen extradition process must be allowed to play out in U.S. courts to its logical conclusion.”
