Youth radio station Yarona FM has welcomed Ms Kelly Ramputswa as the new station manager and she becomes the first woman to be appointed to lead the station since it started broadcasting in 1999.
According to a press statement from the station, Ms Ramputswa is coming into the job having previously held the position of station manager at logistics company, Aramex Botswana.
She also has extensive corporate background.
The Rhodes University graduate said it was her mission to bring a new horizon to the radio station.
“It is my intention for Yarona FM to be not only be the number one radio station for the youth but a station that anyone can tune into and still feel like they are catered for,” she said.
Having been appointed to the job on August 1, Ramputswa said she and her team had already hit the ground running with revising the station’s focus. “
We are working on refocusing the station, the youth of today have different needs, wants and demands to those of 17 years ago when we first went on air, so it’s important for us to cater to this new youth audience which is in-tune with what is happening in the world,” she noted.
Ms Ramputswa is not just a corporate head, she is a former club disc jockey (DJ) with several years behind the decks.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Yarona FM board chairman, Mr Moatlhodi Lekaukau said Ramputswa’s appointment was part of a new journey for the station.
“We are excited to have Kelly come on board. She is a highly experienced manager and yet young enough to understand and appreciate the brand value and direction for the station. On behalf of the board, we wish Kelly success and we will give her all the support she needs to continue Yarona FM’s strong legacy,” Mr Lekaukau stated.
