Mwanza — Government has been urged to punish men who impregnate female students to serve as a deterrent to would be culprits.
The appeal was made here Sunday by 17-year-old Julieth Mbalilaki, one of the 10 girls who excelled in last year’s Form IV examinations.
Julieth is the first born of the Jones Mbalilaki family living at Isamilo Ward in Nyamagana district. She was a student at Baobab Secondary School in Bagamoyo district, Coast Region.
“There are still many bright girls in rural areas who discontinued their studies due pregnancies. It’s hurting for them to lose the chance of getting education,” she said.
“I appeal to the government to prosecute men who spoil the future of our fellow girls through denying them education.” Juliet says she wishes to follow the footsteps of Dr Asha Rose Migiro who rose to a higher position as United National Deputy Secretary General.
She praised President John Magufuli’s no nonsense stand against incompetent public officials and thieves of government money.
“At present some civil servants are working under pressure. They fear that they will lose their jobs for engaging in corruption and embezzlement of public funds,” she said. Juliet scored Grade A in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer science and English.
“The secret behind my success is reading, reading and reading,” she explained. Her father, Mr Jones Mbalilaki, said that he had received her daughter’s exam results with joy. “I wasn’t surprised as I knew my daughter was an industrious student,” he said.
