Congratulations to our very own Columnist, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa on her appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari as his Senior Special Assistant on foreign Affairs and Diaspora on 15th February , 2016.
She was born on 10th October, 1962. She began her career in journalism where she spent 15 years of her professional life and is reputed as an outstanding and compassionate broadcaster who brought succor to millions of Nigerians, especially children, women and the less privileged.
She thereafter vied into politics and transitioned to an even more outstanding and courageous parliamentarian and political leader. She represented the people of Ikorodu division, Lagos Sate, in the House of Representatives from June 2003 to June 2015.
She served as Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs (June, 2003 to June 2007).During this period, she introduced the program ‘We serve you’, where the house leadership met with various constituencies in various zones on a regular basis with the aim of enhancing effective and promoting vibrant citizen participation in legislation.
As Chairman House Committee on Diaspora Affairs (June 2008 till 2015) she championed a global advocacy and call for justice and fairness for Nigerians abroad with impressive outcomes.

- Freedom of Information Bill (FOI) which has now been signed into law in Nigeria
- Nigerian Infant Welfare Scheme Bill
- Nigerians with Disability Bill
- Bill to amend the railway act to allow private sector and state participation
- Nigeria Diaspora commission Bill
- An Act to Eliminate Violence in Private and Public Life
- Bill to Promote the Advancement of Nigerian women and girls
- A bill to amend the National Women Development Centre Act and rename it after Mariam Babangida
