Clerics and community leaders in Oyo state have embarked on a healthcare campaign to sensitize women on the need to embrace family planning in view of the present socio-economic situation in the country.
The awareness rally initiated by the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) took the clerics and community leaders to Egbeda Local Government Council area yesterday, where one of the team leaders, Alfa Shuaib Oyebamiji, the Imam Musulumi in Ogungbade area, urged couples to embrace family planning to have good health.
While noting that Islam enjoins women to breastfeed for two years, Oyebamiji said this corroborates the fact that women should put gap between one child and the other.
Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Egbeda Local Government Area, Pastor Adesola Gbolagade said it is good to plan for the number of children that a couple can have.
NURHI Team leader in Oyo State, Mrs. Stella Akinso maintained that the rally was organized to cover 1 million women in the state in the next three (3) years on family planning methods, counseling and awareness.
